lorna swan picLorna Swan is the Clinical Lead for Adult Congenital Heart Disease at the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust. She is a Consultant Cardiologist in ACHD with a remit including pregnancy & heart disease and ACHD heart failure.  Lorna completed her medical degree and graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1992. She subsequently completed her MD thesis there. In 2001 Lorna undertook a 2 year Clinical Fellowship as the Joint Brompton/Toronto Adult Congenital Cardiology Fellow. Following a locum consultant appointment in Scotland Lorna took up her current post in 2005. She has been the clinical lead for the service for 5 years supporting a team of 6 fulltime ACHD cardiology consultants.

The effects of pregnancy on long-term maternal outcome

pieper els picDr Els PG Pieper is associate professor of cardiology in the University Medical Center, Groningen, the Netherlands. Since 20 years she is director of the adult congenital heart disease program Groningen. She was also untill 2013 medical director of the echocardiography department. Her main research interest is in pregnancy and heart disease and she is project leader of the Dutch ZAHARA studies. She is also involved as a National Coordinator in the ESC ROPAC Pregnancy Registry.  She is member of the task forces of the ESC that constructed guidelines for the management of pregnant women with heart disease and for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. She is president of the Working Group on Adult Congenital Heart Disease of the Netherlands Society of Cardiology and has a leading role in the organization of care for adults with congenital heart disease in the Netherlands. She has organized many courses and symposia in the Netherlands, on pregnancy and heart disease, on echocardiography and on adult congenital heart disease, and has edited several books on these subjects. She is member of the Educational Board of ISACHD and she currently organizes a web-based teaching course for ISACHD. In addition to her work as cardiologist she is a skilled singer. She is married to Hans Hamer, a Dutch cardiologist.

Silversides_Candice picDr. Candice Silversides is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. She is currently research director of the Toronto Congenital Cardiac Center for Adults and head of the Obstetric Medicine Program at the University of Toronto. She is Vice President of the Canadian Adult Congenital Heart Network. She co-chaired the 2009 Canadian Cardiovascular Society adult congenital heart disease guidelines. Her research has focused on adult congenital heart disease and pregnancy and heart disease and is funded by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and the Canadian Institute of Health Research.
